Quest for self-identity.

To "find yourself" is a difficult quest: we all walk in this non-glamorous, elongated version of the classical "Hero's Journey" Joseph Campbell decided was a thing (deduced? Would it be deduced?).

I still don't understand the concept of finding yourself, since you're a lot of different "things"--archetypes of characters found in every TV show or movie: You're the rebel, the shy girl, the nerd, and the Jock, sometimes separate, sometimes all at once.

And honestly, if I were to look back upon history and the short amount of people I've met in my life; if I were to separate myself from the situation, I'd come to no greater conclusion than "You've got to learn to accept yourself": all of your faults and strong points and qualities you do not have make you who you are, and (as much as everyone can know for a fact), you don't get to be anyone else at the moment. You are you until the moment you die, so learn to live with yourself.

It's much easier said than done.

I guess it's only natural to want to kick and thrash and scream at the tender age of 17 when someone sets a limitation for you, even if it's a limitation no one could have possibly set.

But what else can we do? Kick ourselves for being what we can't? Pose to try and be someone we're not? Yet can we really hide behind "It's not who I am" and avoid all responsibility?

Along with what you are and aren't, I believe what we strive to become is an important aspect of our personality.

To be a better friend. To be a wild story. To be a better person: blood donor, feminist, hard worker, top chef, gentleman or woman.

These goals shape us and move us to keep going; to go from sucking to being sorta okay to good to great to awesome (because "good man to great man" takes much longer than two hours).

Today, let's try and love our quirks--even our bad habits! And then if you can manage that, let's take it a step further and try to accomplish a goal in life, no matter how small.

With Love

I give credit to "itswaypastmybedtime" for her video over finding yourself.
I also give major love to Julia Nunes, because you're the soundtrack to my good days, bad days, and okay days. I love your music.
